long time no blog :P
Hey everyone > <
Well as the title of this blog says, no time no blog so ...
... let’s take a trip back in time to December. Try to get the Christmas feeling back and imagine Kulturfabrikken decorated (just try I know it seems like ages ago :P). At that time the house was still buzzing after Jul pa Fabrikken and we as a team had a very hyggligt Christmas a few days before I travelled back home. With good food and good company, we enjoyed the afternoon together and I started packing right after. I was excited to go home and couldn’t wait to see everyone again and catch up on the past few months. So, I packed my travel backpack and left Nykøbing F. in the morning of the 19th of December.
First, I took the train to Copenhagen and changed there for the train to the airport. There I got through security and spent three hours, because my flight was delayed. For me that was not a big problem, since I had my headphones and a book with me and just had time for myself. When we finally boarded the plane, more and more football fans came to the gate, and it tourns out, that exactly on tat day the F.C. København were played against Rapid Wien in Vienna. This meant that I ended up sitting between a bunch of football fans who already gotten drunk on the plane … (btw: Austria won :P)
After a noisy and chaotic flight, I arrived in Vienna and met up a childhood friend. The next day (Friday the 20th) I met another friend who studies in Viena (as most of my friends) and in the afternoon my brother joined me. If you don’t know from my last blog: the main reason for my trip to Vienna was to meet up with my older brother to go to a concert of the band “Die fantastischen Vier” and what can I say: it was FANTASTIC!!!
I really enjoyed my short time in Vienna and was really excited to get on the train to Vorarlberg (my home area) the next morning. Vorarlberg is basically on the other side in Austria than Vienna. The journey by train took my brother and me seven hours. I don’t mind travelling by train and especially this time I enjoyed seeing the different landscapes of Austria. Fields, villages, lakes and the closer we got to home the more and more mountains we saw. Seeing family and friends was of course the highlight of going home. Together with my loved ones I had very cozy and fun holidays and enjoyed the fact that I knew my way around the city. Of course, I also enjoyed the snowy mountains and went skiing and hiking. New Year came fast, and I celebrated with friends in a mountain cabin. We ate good food and enjoyed the view of valley.
After two wonderful and exciting weeks it was time to say once again "bye and see you soon" to all my friends and family. Of course I would have loved to spend even more time at home, but I was also excited to come back to Denmark and the daily life that I am building for myself here. Of course, it was emotional but something that made it easier was my friend Janosch, who spontaneously travelled with me. Together we discovered Kobenhagen a little bit more and Leyla and I introduced him to Nykøbing Falster. It was a really nice start into the new year and by the way HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you, even though we are already a while in 2025 :)
Even though it’s still January, a lot has. After the visit of my friend we got back into the work routine and were again really welcomed back by everyone at work. It was great seeing everyone again. We helped Katrine in her art workshop, helped in the café and planned our workshop for the winter holidays, which you guys should definitely be are part of, so step by and say hello, if you have time. Leyla and I got back in the language school and got to explored our surroundings a little bit more. One day before my birthday we took the company car and went on a little road trip to Marielyst. It was a really nice trip, and we grabbed ourselves a cup of coffee at a small café and took a walk to the beach. There we enjoyed the last few minutes before the sunset and watched the moon raised. The beach and the water looked really surreal and magical. As mentioned before the next day it was my birthday :D I think it was the first time that I celebrated without family and friends and at first that made me a little bit sad. But as soon as I woke up that morning, I was spoiled from everyone. I mean what should I say: A call from my mom in the morning (<3), a present from Leyla, more birthday wishes online and at work, more presents, a birthday song in Katrines art class, Hygge time in the café and smiling people everywhere. I couldn’t imagine a better day then that so thank you again to everyone who made that day special for me :)) And now I’m officially in my 20’s > <
The week after this special day Leyla and I went on another small adventure: Mid-term training, where we met all the wonderful volunteers from the on-arrival again. We spent almost a week together with them, exploring Copenhagen, singing karaoke from the bottom of our heart and catching up who everyone has been so far. The Mid-Term Training is part of our experience as volunteers and helps us to reflect on what we did so far at our project. It should also help us to figure out what we want to do afterwards or get an idea of what we would like to do. For me that was one of the most interesting points in the programm and it was interesting to hear form the others and also talk about fears and challenges in the future. What also hit me after the Mid-term training, when we were sitting with some of the others in a nice café, that it is already the halfway through of my stay in Denmark. It kind of made me realise what I still want to experience and explore here and I’m looking forward to the “second half” of my project.
Here are some of the things I'm looking forward to:
á Meeting up with other volunteers
á Visit from my friends and family
á Events and Concerts at Kulturfabrikken
á experiencing the Danish spring/ summer
á seeing more places in Denmark (Aarhus, Kolding, Roskilde, …)
á every experience that comes my way :)
But apart from all these adventures, some small, some big I have a new mission, which I call “living room art”. When I came back to Denmark and stepped into our apartment I realized how empty it still looks, even though we are living here for half a year now. I set myself the task of adding a little colour to all the white walls and bring some life into the apartment. I’m still searching for inspiration on Pinterest, but there are already a few Ideas in my head, that I will bring to reality ^^
At the end of January Leyla and I actually managed to do some new things. We took part in Katrine's art project, where the children make art for their graduation ceremony. Another thing that we finally managed to do was to go to the swimming centre and I honestly felt like a little kid jumping around in the water and going on the slight, but it was a lot of fun and we will definitely go there again.
A pretty big event that happened at the end of January was our first metal concert at Kulturfabrikken and it was a blast. I got to experience the concert from a completely new perspective. To explain this, I have to evaluate a bit. I love live concerts and have been part of the crowd at concerts before, but I have also had experience as a bartender. At Kulturfabrikken I also became part of the documentation team, if you can put it that way, and now I've somehow gained a new skill. Emil, our technical all-rounder at Kulturfabrikken, showed me how to do the light show at the concert, so that was my new job at the concert besides documentation. I had a lot of fun with it and was really glad that I had Emil by my side all the time when I needed help. So a big THANK YOU to Emil for giving me the opportunity to try something new :D The concert was really fantastic and if you want to know what you missed (:P) you can check out the post on our Instagram and Facebook accounts and who knows, maybe you'll be part of the crowd at our next concert ^^
Looking at the blog now, it is actually shorter than I thought :P Of course I shortened the stories, but I hope you still got an idea of how my life has been the last two months.
Take care and hopefully you will hear from me soon :D
