Ankomst til Danmark
Hej, I am Katrin and I am one of the new volunteers at Kulturfabtikken! I can't wait to experience everything here and take you, dear readers, on this journey with me ✨
Just a moment ago I was in Sweden, finishing my Masters Thesis and suddenly I am on my fourth week in Denmark, writing a blog post. And what four weeks it has been! 🐝🐞
The journey to Denmark was quite chaotic. Delayed trains, cancelled trains, trains that had to be evacuated... I didn't make it any easier for myself by bringing way too much luggage. It was very difficult to carry in the overcrowded trains. My arrival was delayed, delayed and delayed. Well, at least that means that I got the bad luck out of the way and future train journeys in Denmark will be way smoother, right? (foreshadowing)
I was rewarded for making this troubling journey not only with meeting the lovely Guna and Mette in person, but also with arriving at the by far most beautiful apparment I have ever lived in. Me and my fellow volunteer and wonderful roommate Annezina are sharing a place with wooden floors, a lot of light and everything I need for loooong cooking sessions. We haven't been there long, but this place with it's squeaky floors and highly resilient plants allready feels like a second home💕⭐
The first weeks at work have been very welcoming. We learned a lot about the way Kulturfabrikken works, how we can contribute here and meet the people that work and participate here. It is impossible to enter Kulturfabrikken and not feel inspired. Every time I see the unique rooms and the collections of colourful materials my head rattles with ideas. There are soooo many crafts I want to do here and projects I want to start. I think the phrases I have been saying the most these past few weeks are "I have been thinking about.." and "Can we do this?". 🎨🪡Mostly I am looking forward to bring acting to this place, I really hope that that is possible! But there are also sooo many other things I am looking forward to doing here, maybe also a jewellery workshop? Or some more baking?
Living directly in the city center has been both lovely and convenient. The town is quiet but very adorable. Highlights so far have been evening walks on the shoreline during the sunset. Personally I am really excited to visit the spooky museum down the road soon. We already saw the museums store and I really enjoy the mix of lovecraft and cozy vibes👻
I did not make the journey to Denmark on my own. Before my departure I have been put in charge of taking care of a plush rat. Initially the plan was for the Swedish rat to explore Denmark, but now he has become sort of a mascot of our project. 🐁He will capture our experience here in pictures. So far he (or she, or they) has received 2 new handmade outfits, a bath and lots of compliments from our colleagues at Kulturfabtikken. The only thing missing is a proper name for him
On our first weekend here Mette took us (and the rat) to the Safari park on Lolland. We got to cuddle with tiny horses and baby goats!!!! OK, we petted them and they ignored us mostly but it still felt special. Overall the park is a five year olds paradise. Why? Because of all the Dinosaurs: Animatronics, skeletons and a lot of fun facts. They were still fun for grown ups too 🦖
Only after starting we already had our on-arrival training in Ollerup, which happened all so quickly! My arrival to Denmark was nothing compared to our journey to the training: We had a lovely 6 hour delay and arrived wayyyy after everyone else... But at least we got the opportunity to get to know our fellow volunteers from the medival centre Nykøbing and talk about future projects together ❤️ The training it self went past suuuper fast; we learn more about the ESC, ourself and Danish culture (it involved cinnamon and speaking with a mouth full of potatoes). Wednesday we got the chance to explore Odense and the H.C. Andersen museum. As someone whose favourite fairy tale was The little mermaid when growing up I really admire how the museum managed to capture the whimsy and tragedy of that story.🩵 🧜♀️I definitely recommend a visit
Annezina and I have been preparing for the Autumn holiday workshops this week. We will also have our first concert here on Friday and I am really looking forward to seeing what else our time at Kulturfabtikken has in store for us! I can't wait to make memories here 🌀🍂
