Summer, sea and celebrations
Helløj guys,
Tomorrow Lily and I are going on holiday and for me that means that I’ll see my hometown again after 6 months…🥹To be honest, that makes me pretty emotional, looking back at the last weeks and months, astonished by everything that happened and all the things we experienced. I must say that I’m incredibly looking forward to Brussels, my family and friends. And at the same time I’m so glad that Lily and I still have the project until the end of August, with an amazing Danish summer ahead of us🤩 But first, let’s take a look at the past weeks! Be prepared, this could take a longer time, so grab a hyldeblomst saft and get cozy :)
Right after the last blog, I was high above the clouds, because I took the plane to Austria for a family weekend. It was so nice to see everybody, enjoy the mountains and have a break💞 Then I took the train to Germany to take an entry exam for a study I liked, which was all very exciting (spoiler: I didn’t get in :// ). Back to Denmark I took my friend Clara with me and we had a fantastic long weekend filled with an obligatory cozy-café-shopping-Copenhagen day, movie nights and creative time🥰
Meanwhile it is already June, which is such a busy month! Lily and I finally had our module tests at the language school, the oral one on the third of June and on the 17th we had the writing and reading exam. We passed all of them, so it was so nice to get to celebrate it with the colleagues😊🥂 Also at work we had our hands full, because of many special events: on the first Friday of June we had a great concert of Astatine and pre-act DJ Afyro and the concert hall was buzzing! I love those evenings, where the vibe is just amazing :)) The week after, Lily had her very own chalkbag sewing workshop, which was so cool!! It happened on two days, Tuesday and Sunday and it was such a big success, there were a lot of climbers and the atmosphere was so cozy. I was so happy for her, because I know how much time, work and effort she put into this and it was amazing to see how well it turned out💕💕
And then all our focus went on the preparations for the big Indvielsesfest for the new outdoor area. It took us multiple days to get everything ready, but we were finished in time and so the party could begin :) Luckily the weather just got warm and on the big day, the sun was shining and made the new outdoor area look at its best🌞 There were creative workshops on the grass, everyone was eating cake and ice cream on the benches in the sun and there was a circus group called Volantes, who made an extraordinary performance. It was a real summer day and just perfect for celebration🎉 During these days we also celebrated Mette’s and Nanna’s birthdays! Mette took us for dinner in a very cute little restaurant in Idestrup, where they had delicious burgers. Later in the evening, after the Indvielsesfest, Lily and I picked our friend Paula, who is also a volunteer and almost finished with her project, up at the station, because she was again staying for a weekend :) It was so so nice, on Saturday we went to Copenhagen together, because Paula has not been there yet. We went secondhand shopping, got delicious sandwiches from Joe & The Juice, walked around Nyhavn and the little mermaid, took the boat to Reffen streetfood market and in the evening we went to a big public viewing for the football world cup, because that night Germany played against Ivory Coast🥳🥳 The atmosphere was fantastic and we had so much fun!! I also had my first little starstruck-celebrity-moment, because a German podcaster, who is currently studying in Copenhagen, also attended the public viewing and I got the chance to say to her how much I loved the podcast hihi🥰 After the game, there was a little adventure waiting for us, because the bus that we wanted to take to the station didn’t come, so to catch our train, we had to run 10 minutes through the city center, Lily in ballerinas, me on heels, but we made it🥵The day after we just took a little swim by the harbour in the sea, which was very nice and then Paula already had to go home.
At the beginning of this week our friend August got his studenterhue and finally finished his last exam🎉🎉! It is so cool to get to experience these Danish graduation traditions and get to be a part of it, because we picked him up with his family and friends and then had lunch at their house. We had a very cozy time and enjoyed the sun in their wonderful garden🦋🌺 Summer finally arrived in Denmark and it is just beautiful! It even got more Danish on the next day, because we were invited to the big midsummer party for Sankthansaften at Mette’s place. We were eating in the garden and sang songs together, while the sun slowly went down. Then everyone went to the beach and it was very exciting, because I went there a bit earlier, together with Lena, Charlotte, Mette and her boyfriend Thomas, because I actually had the harp with me and unpacked it at the beach. Then all the people came and were amazed by the big fire. But then the even bigger surprise was revealed: Mette and Thomas were getting married that evening!! I knew it the whole time, because already a month ago Mette asked me to play the harp at her wedding💞 To see all the surprised faces was just the biggest joy and Mette and Thomas looked wonderful with the sea, the moon and the fire around them🌟 After the ceremony I played some pieces on the harp for them and it was simply the deepest honor for me to get to contribute to their special moment in this magical way. Then it got dark and we drank champagne, went for a nightswim in the sea and sat around the fire. It was truly beautiful and with that the Danish summer officially began🌞🌞
And with that you got all the highlights from the past busy weeks :) Now it’s time to go home and then come back with fresh energy to make the best out of our last two months here in Denmark filled with åben sommer, swims in the sea, friends, visits, Lily’s birthday, open mic and much more!!
Have a lovely time in the sun and see you very soon🌸🌻🐝
