Music, events and the city is blooming
Hej guys,
Another month has passed and it actually feels like a long time ago that we wrote the last blog, because so many different things had been filling our days… At work, but also beyond there was a lot happening (like I write in every blog lol), but seriously, each week had a different twist and you will hear everything about it in this blog🤪
Right the day after the last blog came out, so on Friday the 17th of April, there was the Vincent Wood concert! First there were DJ Vily (that was Louie!) and DJ Hårdkiks warming up with some nice beats and then Vincent Wood played light and sunny pop music🎶 Although there weren’t so many guests, it was still a fun evening and Lily and I were extra happy, because that evening Paula, our German friend that is also volunteering in Denmark and who we know from the trainings, arrived in Nykøbing to stay for the weekend😍 She joined the concert and we had an amazing weekend together, filled with secondhand-shopping, cooking and late night talks. On Sunday, before she had to go, we had a creative day at Kulturfabrikken where we all sewed and crocheted together :))
The week after we were pretty packed with events! On Monday and Wednesday we had the last vernissages from the Billedskolen, this time from the classes where Lily and I had been helping the art teachers. It was special and cute on another level when the kids you got to know over the past months are proudly showing their artworks to their families. At the same time we were helping with the last preparations for another big event: the Democracy festival! On the 23rd of April Kulturfabrikken turned into a buzzing place full of youngsters, workshops and inspiring stands all about democracy, participating in society and well-being. Lily and I helped Louie with his workshop where you could make stencils and spray paint it on a wall, which was very cool! After that fun, but also exhausting day, Lily actually took the train to Germany, because she had a week of vacation at home. So I was alone in the apartment during that time, but there was a lot to do: on the first weekend I could participate at two concerts from the Understrømmen orchestra together with my harp teacher and the other harp student, which was so nice and during the week I met up with the friends for climbing and Guna and I had a cozy evening sitting down at the harbour, drinking rosé and watching the sunset🍷🌞 Then Lily came back the first weekend of May in the middle of the night after an adventurous train ride!
Meanwhile the town finally started blooming and all the trees were shining in a light, fresh green🌿 That’s why Mette one evening invited Guna, Lily and me to come over to her house to admire the wonderful cherry blossom tree in her garden. The clouds of light pink matched perfectly with the old yellow house🩷💛 We ate sushi, went down to the beach and had an incredibly cozy time together. A perfect change to busy working days, because in that same week we had the big oprydningsdag: we sorted all the bags full of clothes for the Swapshop and rearranged it🥵 Besides that I have been planning my own project for the past two months: an open mic evening where youngsters can come sing or perform on the stage of Kulturfabrikken, get inspired by each other and have a fun evening together. That takes a lot of time and I’m learning so much while organizing everything. It will happen on Friday the 7th of August, so put a cross in your calendars🥳! A really fun end of that week was that Lily and I got to attend the beginning of August’s Gala together with Nanna and Rasmus. All the people from his class arrived in very fancy cars at their school and they walked on a red carpet into the school. To see how they do it here in Denmark was very cool and I can’t wait to see more traditions unfolding when our friends from here graduate💃
And exciting things don’t stop there, because last week there was quite some stuff happening: on Tuesday I could participate in another harp concert, this time organized by the music school at the højskole in Marielyst. I had to play one solo piece and one piece together with the other harp student. As playing concerts makes me really nervous, it was a good opportunity to overcome that fear again and Mette and Guna came to watch, which made me so happy🥰 After that I could totally relaxed focus on the long Kristi himmelfart weekend where the next cool thing was waiting for us: the GNIST Festival!! Through Ingrid and her daughters Liva and Asta, who are volunteering there, we got to know about the festival and it was a really great experience. We also volunteered there and the vibe with the whole team was really fun and we met the whole friend group of Asta which was super nice :)) Although it was really cold (especially at night in the tent🥲) I enjoyed hearing the music of the different artists so much and the program was very varied. With a lot of good memories in our backpacks we returned to Nykøbing last Sunday🌞
The last couple of days I just used to reset at work and drink a lot of tea after catching a cold during the festival. I will need all my energy, because actually tomorrow I am flying to Austria for a family weekend and after that I will go to Germany for an exam to get selected to study creative writing. So busy weeks are ahead of me and June will be crazyyyyy, so guys be prepared for an even longer blog next time!!
Enjoy the warm weather this weekend, take care and thank you if you read until down here😚
Vi ses,
Hanna
