Blog #6 The first Sunshine
Hej everybody,
Spring is here! Or at least I let myself believe winter is over since I saw some sun again…
When I was writing the last blog my brother was here in Danmark. We had some amazing days, went to København and he met all my friends here.
The weekend after that it was time to travel to København again for a seminar with our host organisation AFS. There we could meet many other volunteers and talk about all our experiences so far. But that wasn’t all… just after that on Monday we took the train to Aarhus for our Midterm Training which is a 3 day Seminar organised by the Danish National Agency. It was with the same group as our On Arrival Training in autumn. That was so nice! I was very happy to meet these people again and spend some time in the beautiful city Aarhus is. The program of the seminar was very good as well. We talked a lot about our projects, difficulties, experiences and solidarity. In between we had great food and visited places like “Den Gamle By” and the botanical garden. On the second night the trainers even took us to a French restaurant for a three course meal. So it’s safe to say I enjoyed the conversations as well as the meals. I took the Thursday and Friday after the seminar off to stay in Aarhus for a short holiday. I tried to make the most of those days while still relaxing a bit which worked out quite well. We were blessed with sunshine the whole week and I was incredibly happy for that. I feel like it’s been a really long winter so just those few spring feeling days meant a lot. I explored the city, enjoyed sweet cafes, went to the KØN museum and sat in the sun knitting. I also met up with a friend from Germany I met on a pre seminar last summer. It was super nice to see each other again and we had a fun evening in the city together with her roommate. There was a lot to talk about :) On the weekend I came back to Nykøbing a bit exhausted but also very, very happy and motivated by all the people and conversations of that week. I went back to working as usual the next Monday. Right now I’m planning a workshop event where climbers can learn how to sew their own chalk bags. I am having a lot of fun planning a whole project on my own and learning a lot on the way. I think the workshop should happen in April or May so look forward to reading about it!
On Thursday last week Emil finally came to visit me again. He was backpacking in Asia for two months so I hadn’t seen him in a long time. It is really nice that he is back and that he can stay for a whole week this time. That means he can be part of all our workshops and events. On Saturday we had a Family concert which was fun and in the evening we decided to go bouldering in København with our friends. It was great and the bouldering hall there is very big. At the end we were all exhausted from climbing so much and ended up at Burger King before driving home again. Luckily we could sleep in the next morning to have a relaxing Sunday. We cleaned, showered, baked cinnamon rolls, cooked a nice dinner and had a movie night, watching Fight Club. On Monday Emil also came to Åbent Værksted to see what we do there. It was really cozy and Nanna decided to just paint the walls in cafe which was fun. Tuesday after work we all went bouldering together again here at Kulturfabrikken. I’m really happy, that we get to do that and we already know many of the climbers now. Then on Wednesday I had a day off, since we had worked the last Saturday. Emil and I decided to go on a little bike tour to Marielyst. The weather was amazing and despite some strong headwind we had the best time biking along the seaside. In Marielyst we sat in a cute cafe to enjoy some cake and then of course walked along the beautiful white beach. There weren’t many other people yet so it was very peaceful. After we biked back home we went out to eat at Dhaba, the same Indian restaurant Hanna and I went to on her birthday. They have so many different dishes and also a lot of vegetarian things so it was the perfect end to my free day. We had a long work day on Thursday since there was a event in the morning, a first meeting about our summer opening party and then Designstuen in the afternoon. Still we had a good time and the workshop was cozy. I think it’s great that we are starting to have more and more participants in the Designstuen. It’s my favourite workshop to host and I’m also having fun creating some content to promote it.
It has felt refreshing. Like I metioned before I am truly so glad for every single ray of sunshine and warmth after the long winter and these past few weeks have felt like a small spring awakening. I am feeling motivated and optimistic and I’m excited for everything planned in the next weeks, including my family visiting for easter, more progress on the Chalkbag Workshop and finally a new adult concert.
You’ll of course hear all about it in the next blog post!
