Blog #5 Creative winter days...
Hej everybody,
winter is still going strong in Denmark. Unfortunately the German post office lost the package with my rain jacket and down jacket that my mom sent from home (because I forgot them there over Christmas). Anyways I’m trying my best to survive the wind and the cold so here is what I’ve been up to the last few weeks…
At the end of January we got to celebrate Hanna’s 19th birthday! Hurray! We went out to this Indian restaurant called Dhaba. It’s right in the city center so very close to our place and the food was amazing. We shared many different types of small dishes and absolutely enjoyed it. Afterwards we had a little Party at our place. I baked brownies and we invited all of our friends. It was a very fun night full of music, conversation and laughter.
I’m trying to avoid the winter blues by doing a lot with friends here in Denmark as well as talking to my friends and family at home. What also helps is moving my body, so I spent most evenings either climbing or going to the gym. The week before the winter holidays three of Hanna’s friends came to visit. Sadly Hanna hat to spontaneously go to Germany because of a family situation so she didn’t get to spent a lot of time with them. It was a bit random for me to spent a week living with people I didn’t know at all but it worked out really fine. I took them climbing in the evenings and on Friday night August came over and we all played games together while also baking cinnamon rolls. They were delicious! When Hanna came back we met with Louie for a creative evening, making pizza, drawing in our sketchbooks and watching a show. Exactly what you need to do on a cold winter day…
Last week it was time for Vidunderlig Vinterferie. I was part of the sewing workshop again, where all the kids could come to make little bags or bookmarks. We had so many people in the house. It of course got a bit stressful at times but overall I had so much fun teaching the children how to sew and seeing them proud of what they made. There was amazing food in the cafe and also all the other workshops were filled so there was a really nice atmosphere across all rooms. On Friday evening we had the Hyggebar which was also very cozy. We served the æbleskiver that were still left from Christmas which was really funny and were chatting, playing games and having some drinks. Some of ur friends were there, so after the event was over and we had cleaned up everything we decided to go to Marielyst together to go bowling. It was a lot of fun! Afterwards we wanted to go to a bar but it turned out pretty much everything there was closed, so we just took the bus home. Even though it was dark and snowy we got to see a bit of Marielyst and we definitely want to go back in summer to go to the beach. Overall the winter holiday week was very full but also a very nice change because of different work tasks and times and no school.
I used the weekend to just relax after that and also to prepare a few things because my brother is here now. He is staying for the week and I am incredibly happy to see him again. On top of the he brought all my favourite food from home that I am missing a lot while living here in Denmark. He already met some of the colleagues and Louie today and we have plans to go to Køpenhavn together tomorrow, so I’m sure we will have a nice time.
I’ll tell you all about it in the next blog…
