Blog #2 She's back!!!
Hej everybody,
I’m so happy to be back again -healthy and able to work! The last few weeks were filled with amazing moments, new friends and finding my way back into a routine.
Right when I got back to work it was autumn holidays. We had an amazing time including several workshops, a kids concert, meeting many families and decorating spooky græskar kage. Elisabeth and I were in charge of the sewing workshop. Since sewing is one of my favourite hobbies that was fun and it was so sweet to see the kids proudly showing off their projects in the end. On the weekend our friends August and Jonas took us to go bouldering in Copenhagen. It was a great bouldering hall and I was more than happy to get back into the sport I had really missed. Shortly after the holidays we had our first visitor from home. My boyfriend Emil stayed for the weekend, got to meet Hanna and see a bit of my workplace. We also met up with August and Jonas again and went climbing all together. Even though the weather wasn’t great we went on a short trip to Copenhagen. Emil and I spent the day exploring the city, looking at art, sitting in cozy cafes and eating the most delicious icelandic food.
The next week was busy at work since we had the big Pede B concert on Halloween. We spent most of the show behind the bar selling beer and breezers and it ended up being a pretty long night. Still the concert was incredible and it was so nice meeting the artist and his crew and having that many people in the house.
Another thing happening these past weeks is the start of our new workshop -Designstuen! Apart from the “Open Workshop” on Mondays we are now hosting a Design Workshop every Thursday afternoon. There you can sew, knit, crochet, paint clothes and upcycle pieces from the Swap Shop. So far we’ve had many Skaters come in to customise their helmets or paint their shirts which was really fun. I hope in the future there will be more people joining in…
Last week Hanna and I got to go on the “On Arrival Training” every ESC volunteer needs to participate in. We took the train and bus to go to a little town called Ollerup on the southern part of Fyn. There we met many other volunteers from all over Europe. We got to learn about their projects, Danish culture, our rights and responsibilities as volunteers and much more. Apart from that there was also lots of time for social activities and getting to know each other, which I think was the best part of the Seminar. The location was a Gymnastik Højskole filled with many sports facilities we could use, like a trampoline hall, where I got to learn a flip, a gym and a pool with sauna. I had the best time with all the other volunteers and I’m really happy for the connections we made. We are planning on meeting up again and staying in touch. Of course the training also gave me a lot of input for my stay here in Denmark and my work at Kulturfabrikken, so overall it was a very fulfilling four days.
Over the weekend one of my friends from home came to visit and obviously that meant another trip to Copenhagen. This time the weather was better, just really cold. We went to the Statens Museum for Kunst, where we got to see many cool art pieces. We also became very aware of the fact that the Danes already start Christmas season in the beginning of November. The whole city was decorated with lights and trees and the Christmas markets were already open and selling Glühwein for 80 kr. To me that was shocking even for Copenhagen prices. Anyway we had a very cozy one day trip.
This week we are back to work as usual but soon we’ll finally be starting language school. We got our interviews done and will start with classes in December, so be prepared for a lot more Danish in upcoming blogs. Lastly there was also the election on Tuesday, in which we got the opportunity to vote. I think it was very exciting to vote in a new country and I found out that the ballot papers in Denmark are comically big compared to those in Germany.
I think that’s enough now about the last month. I enjoyed all the different events very much and am already looking forward to the next week that will bring more visitors, another concert and I’m sure much more fun.
You will here about that in my next blog.
Vi ses
