Blog #10 Vacation and Open Summer
Hej guys,
I’ve been on a really long summer holiday and now got right into the new summer work schedule. There is a lot happening and at the same time the end of our time here in Denmark is coming closer and closer. I don’t really want to think about leaving so I will tell you all about what has been happening.
I went on my summer holiday for over two weeks. First taking the train home to see my family for a day and then pack the car to drive down to Italy with Emil. We stayed in our little tent on a camping ground right at the coast for five days. It was very hot so we enjoyed the beach in the morning, reading under a tree in the afternoon and amazing pizza for dinner. Since the weeks before were so full with work and events I was happy to just relax. On our way back to Germany we visited our friend Casper in Austria and stayed at his apartment in Innsbruck for two nights. We got to meet his roommates who were very funny and he showed us around the city he is studying in. In the evening we cooked together and sat outside to eat. Then we drove back to Ulm. I stayed at home for the other week of my holiday. I missed my friends a lot so I was so happy to have some time to meet them. I went to my friend Hannas graduation, where we stayed up until late in the night dancing and celebrating. On of the guys in her class was half Swedish so his mom also got him a hat like the ones our friends in Denmark are all wearing. I thought that was an amusing coincidence. The rest of the week I spent doing things with my family, going to the lake or the pool with my friends, going bouldering and going out in the evening. It was great being back in my hometown. Since most of my friends are planning to go study and move away we enjoyed being at home together even more. Before I left, my friends Linn and Hanna also celebrated their birthdays together with a little garden party. Those two weeks were one of my favourite vacations ever, without even having to go very far away.
My train ride back went so smoothly and I even got to take the ferry, sitting out in the evening sun looking at the ocean. I came back to Nykøbing well rested and full of joy. It wasn’t totally easy to leave from home once again, but I have less than two month left of my stay in Denmark so I was just looking forward to the rest of the summer weeks here with a lot of excitement. Since we have the Open Summer program at Kulturfabrikken now the schedule is also very different which I like. My first day back working went very well and we went to the beach with our friend Kiana right after. It was beautiful and I ‘m reminding myself everyday to enjoy living right by the sea as long as I still do.
Then last weekend my grandparents came to visit. I showed them around Kulturfabrikken and they could sit down in our pretty outdoor cafe to have a nice cup of coffee and a cookie. On Saturday we took our bikes and I went to the harbour and all around town. In the evening Hanna and I were invited to our climbing friend Emils studentergilde. It was a great party where we had a lot of fun. We got home at 6 am in the morning which meant I got about one hour of sleep before going to København for the day with my grandparents. Even though I was a bit tired then I was very happy to show them around. We walked around, took the yellow boats and had good food. My grandparents liked the city and after we went back to Nykøbing in the afternoon we went out to eat pizza and pasta for dinner together. They left after we had breakfast together Monday morning. I’m so happy they could come and stay with me for some days.
This week I was a helper for the Open Summer workshop with Anne Vibeke. From Tuesday to Thursday we were creating a lot of fun artworks with kids and families. We turned sticks from the garden into flags, magic wands and swords. The weather was nice two of the days so we got to do the workshops outside which made it even better. Everyone was so joyful. On Wednesday we also got to go to another studentergilde. August celebrated in their barn which was so cool. We knew a lot of the people from Saturday so it was fun to see them again. We played a lot of games and Nanna brought out amazing Chilli con and sin carne as a “midnight snack”. It was so so great and we again stayed up very late so getting up to work the next day was bit of a struggle. But after work me and Guna got to go to Mette’s place with her. We went for a swim at the little beach and then looked through some of Mette’s old clothes. It was very fun to make a little catwalk and try on all the stuff. We both got to keep some thing which is so nice. Afterwards we had dinner together on the terrace and even saw a deer in the garden. It was such a sweet evening. I’m soaking up all the nice summer days in Denmark.
Now I’m looking forward to my birthday next week and Emil coming to visit me. I’m sure it will be amazing and you’ll hear about it in the next blog.
Vi ses!
