April?? Time is running fast ...

April for me? A month full of animals and not sleeping at home, but let me explain :)

It all started, where my last blog ended (makes sense): on my way to Austria to see my family and friends. First I went to the second biggest city of Austria named Graz. The reason for my visit there was my older brother, who is studying there and the rest of my family also happened to be there, because of a climbing competation from my little brother. As soon as I arrived my brother showed my the city, his new apartment and took me to a concert with his friends, so my trip started very nice. Together with the rest of my family we explored the city in the following days and had a fantastic time all together.

After again saying bye to my family my travel wasn't over yet. I made my way to Vienna, where I spent a couple days visiting my friend, who are studying there and at the same time getting to know my (hopefully) futur living enviroment a little bit more. Soon my time in Vienna was also over and after a long traveling day I arrived again in Nykobing Falster.

In comparison to beeing surrounded by all my loved ones, the apartment felt really empty and spending easter alone felt kinda wired, but I had something to look froward to and that was the visit from my older brother and two childhood friends on the next weekend.

Before that I was of course at work in Kulturfabrikken. Beeing a part of meetings, workshop and the cafe shifts became something normal by now and I still enjoy the work with all those wonderful people. A big task that needed to be done was to give the Swap Shop a new look. With the sun alot of new bags with spring and summer cloth appeared at work and needed to be sorted out. That’s why I started the spring clean up with Elisabeth and it filled my work week with digging throw bags and bags with cloth. When Elisabeth and I were finally finished on Friday it was all worth it and the Swap Shop looks great again. So if you still have a voucher from us flying around at home or a piece you want to swap with us, just stop by and maybe you will find you new favourite piece for the summer :P

The Weekend arrived and I had visitors as you could read before. After I visited my older brother it was now his turn to visit me and he brought two of our closesed friends with him, which we grew up with. I haven’t seen both of them in a longer time, but it felt nothing like that and we spent a wonderful weekend together, first at Kultufabrikken, then at the habour and ended up in Copenhagen, where we spent the day with alot of fun activities, including a boot tour during which our boat broke down 🥴 But don’t worry we were able to change boat and during the wating time we realaxed in the Copenhagen habour, enjoying the sun and lisiting to fun facts from the tour guide.

After all this time spending time with humans it was time to change it up :P

That was only possible, because Jannie, the wonderful lady who is in charge of the Sewing Workshop, asked us to take care of her house and animals while she and her family went on holidays. I spent two times at her place and it felt like a little vacation to me, beeing surounded by fields, cows, chickens, cats and her dog Eddie. I enjoyed going for walks with Eddie during sunset, collecting eggs form the chickens in the morning and enjoying my morning coffee on the selfmade swing in the garden. I would consider my self more a cat than a dog person, but I think Eddie and me became a good duo and enjoyed his company a lot 🐶🤝🏻👩🏻

For me it was also a good moment to spent some time outside from the apartment, because our sink broke down again x_x so we had workers going in end out to fix it and I think they found the problem, but the left us with some holes in our wall, so I’m kinda looking forward for them to close those walls and with that hopefully fix the sink forever...

It may sounds wired, but sometimes I forget that I’m Denmark. Of course a lot of stuff is different but because I found my routines by now everything seems more normal than at the beginning of my volunteering year. It hit me just the other day when I was talking to my mom, that my time here will be over soon :( Four month are left and I already needed to think what I want my future to look like. I have mixed feelings about the end of my stay here. On the one side I’m excided to (again) start a new chapter in my life, on the other side I will miss Denmark and all the people I met. But now is not yet the time to be sad, so let’s see it this way: I have STILL four month and I will try to make the most of it and enjoy every moment :D

The first May weekend I talked a lot about that with other volunteer, which we met again on the ICYE spring camp. We got the change to see alot of friends, that we already made, again and spent one last weekend together. I will hopefully see some of them again and if not in Denmark then maybe some where else in the world. That is one of the many plus points with having international friends :D By the way if you don’t know anything about ICYE or the ESC project and are curious or if you are interested in the ESC project and want to be a volunteer yourself I can recommend the podcast “Hyggegossip”. It is made by two volunteers we became friends with and they talk about their own experience as volunteers but also about everything that helps you to become a volunteer. You can find the Podcast on Spotify and I hope it will help you :)

As you can see it was once again a bussy month and I'm getting more and more excited for the danish summer and alll the adventures :)

Take care and see you at Kultur ^^
