A lot of traveling and spring is coming!
Hej everyone,
It feels like no time has passed since we wrote our last blogs, probably because there was a lot going on! But something definitely changed: spring is coming to Denmark🥳🌿!! To see the sun shining just brightens up my entire day and it is so nice that it’s not freezing anymore. Hopefully you guys are also able to enjoy the warmth🤗 Now let me tell you about the last weeks!
In the last week of February Nanna was on holiday, so Lily, Guna, Lizzy and I took care of the cafe. We luckily managed to serve all the delicious things Nanna had baked before, so everyone could still enjoy the iconic buns, cookies and mini-pizza’s. Another thing that was keeping me busy that week was that I had to finish my portfolio for an application to study creative writing in Germany, so each evening I was editing and improving my texts… Finally, I could send it on Friday, so relieved that this big task I stressed about was done! On the same day I stepped into the train to Copenhagen, because on that evening our AFS orientation weekend started :)) We spent the weekend in Copenhagen and it was very nice to be in the city, meet some new people and break the daily routine! We had some sessions about ESC and AFS and Saturday evening we went to a bar and had a cozy time with everyone☺️
Then on Sunday Lily and I arrived back in Nykøbing, just to pack our bags for the next trip: directly the day after the Midterm training in Aarhus started! So we took the train all the way to Jylland with the sun as our companion🌞🌞 Getting to know Aarhus was really fun, because it was my first time being there and Lily, who has already been there, has told me so many nice things about it and I really enjoyed exploring a new part of Denmark! But first, let me tell you about the training: it was the same group as in November for the On Arrival training, so it was great to see everyone again, because we had such a fun atmosphere and I was really looking forward to spending time with them again. The hostel and especially the venue for the training, a culture and youth house in Aarhus, were also very nice, as well as the sessions there: to have time to reflect felt really good and through all the exercises from the trainers I got some new clarity and insights. Another highlight of the training was the food🤩!! The first evening they took us to a street food market, where you got amazing smells from every corner and we totally enjoyed it😋 And also on the second day we got the best culinary experience with a lunch at the botanical garden and a three course dinner in the evening. The trainers left us in the restaurant to let us finish the wine and you can certainly imagine that we had a very fun night✨ On Wednesday the training ended, but our time at Aarhus wasn’t over yet, because Lily and I stayed at the hostel to enjoy the city a little more. We went to secondhand shops, chilled in cafes and the sun and I went to the ARos art museum. Then on Thursday in the afternoon we met Mette and Emma, other ESC volunteers (they weren’t at the training, but Lily knew Mette from the training from their sending organization) and we had a very nice time together, drinking matcha and sharing our experiences here in Denmark🥰
Very early in the morning on Friday I left Aarhus (Lily stayed another day) to take the train to Germany to go to the funeral of my grandma on Saturday. It felt very good to finally see my parents and to be together with the family, because I miss her so much.
Then I came back to Denmark and a busy week started filled with meetings, planning new projects (very cool things are coming up, so be prepared…), workshops, GuldborgUng Mester, a kidsconcert, language school, the daily to-do’s and climbing🥵 Also Lily’s boyfriend Emil came visiting again and on Saturday we all went climbing together with August and Jonas in Copenhagen, which was their present for my birthday😊
So it has been a lot these days, and it keeps coming because during the next few weeks there will also be some nice and exciting things happening! One last thing I want to share: I got the most wonderful self knitted sweater from Nanna, she worked on it for so long and I didn’t notice at all and suddenly she gave it to me🥹🥹🥹!!! Thank you so so much, I am so touched that you put so much time and energy into this and it is certainly now my favourite piece in my bright sweater collection🧡❤️💙
Hope you guys are also ready for spring and I wish you already a nice påske💐!
Vi ses,
Hanna :)
